Westminster v RAF

HMS Westminster Arrived in to the Port of Tallinn Fri 10TH May 19.

During the period at sea prior to the visit a football fixture was organised by LPT Duffy.

The fixture was to take place against a RAF team from Amari Air Base.

The fixture took place Saturday 11th May 19 at Keila Football Club.

Kick off 1700

With new recruits added to the WSTR ranks the team took to the field. The RAF kicked off and started to get onto the front foot straight away, forcing CPO Owen into an early save in the WSTR net. After the early flurry of RAF attacks WSTR started to show there dominance winning the ball back early in the middle of park through PO Cupid & LS King. The breakthrough came on just 22 minutes in to the first half when a pin point pass from LS King found AB Jaundrill (making his debut) who slotted home from a tight angle. The rest of the half was played out with WSTR creating more and more chances but failing to hit the back of the net.

The second half started as the first with the RAF passing to feet and moving the ball around nicely. Just as the first though WSTR started to up the tempo again, with substitution AB Bloomfield taking up position at RB and AB Reilly CM, the second goal was coming and on 74 minutes it came after good work down the right wing by AB Hughes (another debutant) weaving and turning the RAF defence before slotting home passed the keeper. The RAF weren’t finished though and kept trying to play short and fast , nearly catching CPO Owen off his line but the bar came to his rescue. The final ten minutes saw WSTR playing the ball around all over the pitch and even got to see LREG Haynes in his new role as CF. Final result RAF 0 WSTR 2, a good run out for both teams and a first win for WSTR on deployment.
