Vets v Solent All Stars Vets

On a damp evening in Eastleigh the RN Vets played their first fixture since losing in Guernsey.  On a lush grass pitch the RN Vets started brightly, moving the ball quickly and play at a high tempo.  Within 30 minutes the Navy found themselves racing into a 4-0 lead with Steve Barlow helping himself to a hat trick and Jimmy Smith scoring.  Paul Willets was creating numerous chances from the right flank with his pin point crosses ( He told me to say all that !)

Navy Manager The back four and Jimmy the cat Bond were snuffing out any chances
  John Gwynne
that the All stars tried to create. The second half started badly when an All stars smashed a volley in from the edge of the box off the underside of the bar whilst Jimmy Bond was trying to digest his half-time pastie.  To the RN sides credit they started to play their passing game again and from a Paul Willetts corner, which was played too near their keeper, Steve Rule out jumped their goalkeeper and glanced the header in at the far corner.

Steve Johnson then scored with a downward header from another Willetts cross and Jimmy Smith scored with a powerful cross shot before Mike Farmilow completed the rout.   Although the All Stars scored a couple in the last ten minutes, they were no more than a consolation and the RN Vets ran out deserved 9-3 winners.  The RN Manager and referee for the evening was pleased with the performance and even more pleased that everyone found their way to the ground.
