FA Licensed Coaches Club

What is the FA Coaches Licensing Scheme?

In August, 2011, The FA Coaches Club for Licensed Coaches was launched.  The scheme aims to raise standards in coaching across the game by ensuring that coaches keep their training and qualifications up to date.

The FA Licensed Coaches’ Club forms a key part of The FA’s Youth Development Review and Coaching Strategy.Through commitment to continued professional development, up-to-date learning and adherence to good practice, 'Licensed Football Coaches' will stand for reliance, trust and credibility within the game. Clubs, players and parents will have the assurance that their coach is suitably qualified and trained to manage a coaching programme.

What is the criteria for joning the scheme?

The FA Licensed Coaches’ Club will require that coaches meet the following criteria in order to join:-

  -  Min Level One coaching qualification
  -  Emergency Aid certificate
  -  FA Safeguarding children certificate
  -  FA CRB check (if coaching children)

Why Should Coaches Become Licensed?

In an ever changing game, it is no longer really enough for coaches to have completed a course once in the past and then not keep up to date with evolving coaching techniques.

The FA Licensed Coaches' Club will provide support and training for licenced coaches throughout the season. Coaches will be able to keep a record of their training to present to their clubs. There will be local events for coaches to meet their CPD Requirements, as well as access to FA Learning Courses and the option to subscribe to a new coaching magazine.

What are the CPD requirements to remain licensed?

Once you are licensed to coach, coaches will need to ensure they commit to a certain level of training every year in order to retain their licence:-

Level One - 3 hours per year
Level Two - 5 hours per year
Level Three / UEFA B - 5 hours per year
UEFA A & Pro Licence - 5 hours per year
